Measurement Guide: Your Blueprint for a Perfect Fit

The Latex Atelier Measurement Guide

Welcome to the most important step in creating your custom latex garment. Unlike conventional clothing, latex does not stretch out to accommodate you; it is engineered to stretch with you. Precise measurements are the non-negotiable foundation of this process, ensuring a fit that is secure, comfortable, and extraordinarily flattering.

This guide is your collaborative tool. Follow it meticulously, and you will be rewarded with a garment that feels like a second skin.

Before You Begin: Essential Preparation

  • What You Need: A soft, flexible measuring tape (cloth or plastic-sewn). Do not use a metal tailor's tape.

  • What to Wear: Wear the undergarments you intend to wear with the final garment (e.g., a thong for leggings, a specific bra for a catsuit). For full-body garments, minimal or no clothing is ideal.

  • How to Stand: Stand naturally, with your feet together and arms relaxed at your sides. Do not suck in your stomach or puff out your chest. Breathe normally.

  • The Helper: For the most accurate results, have a friend assist you. It is very difficult to measure certain areas on yourself without distorting the tape.

  • The Tape: Keep the tape measure snug against your body, but not tight. It should not dig into the skin or compress it. The tape should be parallel to the floor for horizontal measurements.

The Measurement Set: A Detailed Walkthrough

Take each measurement twice for accuracy. Record all measurements in centimeters (CM). We will translate them into the precise pattern.

A. Core Torso & Bust

  1. Chest/Bust: Measure around the fullest part of the chest, across the shoulder blades, keeping the tape level.

  2. Underbust: Measure directly underneath the bust, where a bra band would sit.

  3. Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your torso, typically just above the navel. If there is no pronounced narrowing, measure at the natural waistline. Do not "cinch" for this measurement.

  4. Upper Hip: Measure around the fullest part of your hips, approximately 7-9 inches (18-23 cm) below the waist.

  5. Lower Hip/Seat: Measure around the very fullest part of your seat.

  6. Torso Length (Front): From the center of the shoulder (where a bra strap would sit), drape the tape over the bust point and down to your natural waistline.

  7. Torso Length (Back): From the prominent bone at the base of your neck (C7 vertebra), down the center of your back to your natural waistline.

B. Arms & Shoulders

  1. Shoulder to Shoulder: Measure from the outer edge of one shoulder socket (where your arm begins) to the other, across the back.

  2. Bicep: Measure around the fullest part of your upper arm.

  3. Forearm: Measure around the fullest part of your lower arm, just below the elbow.

  4. Wrist: Measure around the bone of your wrist.

  5. Arm Length (Sleeve): With arm slightly bent, measure from the shoulder socket tip, over the elbow, to the wrist bone.

C. Legs

  1. Thigh: Measure around the fullest part of your upper leg, typically at the top.

  2. Calf: Measure around the fullest part of your lower leg.

  3. Ankle: Measure around the narrowest part of your ankle, just above the ankle bone.

  4. Inside Leg (Inseam): Measure from the very top of your inner thigh (at the crotch) down to the floor. Stand straight, feet slightly apart.

  5. Outside Leg (Side Seam): Measure from your natural waistline, down the side of your body, over the hip, to the floor.

D. Key Garment-Specific Measurements

For Dresses, Bodysuits, & Catsuits:
18. Crotch Depth (Front): Sit on a flat, hard chair. Measure from your natural waistline at the front, straight down to the chair's surface.
19. Crotch Depth (Back): From your natural waistline at the back, straight down to the chair's surface.
20. Neck to Crotch (Front): From the hollow at the base of your front neck, down through the center of the torso, to the point between the legs.
21. Neck to Crotch (Back): From the prominent bone at the base of your neck, down the spine, through the center of the seat, to the point between the legs.

For Hoods & Necklines:
22. Head Circumference: Measure around the fullest part of your head, typically just above the eyebrows and ears.
23. Neck Circumference: Measure around the base of your neck where a choker would sit.

Expert Tips & Common Pitfalls

  • The "Snug vs. Tight" Fallacy: The goal is "skintight," not "compressive." A too-tight measurement leads to stress on seams and discomfort. We add necessary ease for movement and dressing.

  • Posture is Everything: Measure as you are, not as you wish to be. The garment is engineered for your real body.

  • Asymmetry is Normal: Most bodies are slightly asymmetrical. Note if one side (e.g., a bicep or thigh) is consistently larger, and we will pattern accordingly.

  • Communication is Key: In the "Notes" section of your order, tell us about your body. Do you have prominent shoulder blades? A long torso? This qualitative information is as valuable as the numbers.
