Our Material Philosophy: Sourced for Legacy

The foundation of a lasting garment is its material. We approach our sourcing with intentionality.

• Natural Origins: Our primary material is natural rubber latex, a sustainably harvested resource derived from the sap of the Hevea brasiliensis tree. This makes it a renewable, biodegradable material at its source. We partner with suppliers who adhere to responsible forestry and ethical tapping practices.

• Quality as Sustainability: We rigorously select only premium-grade, high-clarity latex sheeting. This commitment to quality means fewer imperfections, greater durability, and a longer functional life for every garment. A piece that doesn’t degrade, discolor, or fail is the core of our environmental ethos.

• Durability by Design: Our made-to-measure approach is inherently anti-waste. By crafting garments to precise measurements, we eliminate the inefficiency of mass-produced, ill-fitting sizes that often go unsold or are quickly discarded. Your garment is made for you, and you alone.

The Atelier Practice: Mindful Creation

Sustainability is woven into our process.

• Zero Deadstock Model: We operate on a made-to-order basis for custom pieces. This means we only cut material when an order is placed, dramatically reducing textile waste common in conventional fashion production.

• Precision & Preservation: Our pattern-making is optimized to minimize off-cuts during the cutting process. Any remaining material is conscientiously sorted and recycled where possible.

• Long-Life Components: We use only high-grade metal zippers, durable plastic clips, and reinforced bonding agents to ensure that every component of your garment ages with integrity, avoiding premature failure.

Your Role: The Stewardship of Care

The lifespan of a latex garment is a shared responsibility. With meticulous care, your piece can last for decades. This ritual of care transforms maintenance into a meditative practice of preservation.

The Latex Atelier Care Protocol

1. Dressing & Wearing:

• Always use a dedicated silicone-based dressing aid. This protects the material from over-stretching and prevents oils from your skin from immediately transferring to the garment.

• Avoid contact with metals (except stainless steel or aluminum), oils, solvents, and certain cosmetics (especially those containing oils or silicones incompatible with latex).

2. After Wear – The Cleansing Ritual:

• Rinse & Wash: Shortly after wearing, rinse the garment inside and out with lukewarm water. Use a mild, pH-neutral soap (like unscented castile soap) or our specially formulated Latex Atelier Wash. Never use dish soap, shampoo, or products containing oils or conditioners.

• Rinse Thoroughly: Ensure all soap residue is removed.

• Dry with Care: Pat the garment gently with a soft, lint-free towel. Do not wring or twist. Hang it to air-dry completely, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and strong air currents. Turn it inside out halfway through drying.

3. Storage – The Art of Preservation:

• Condition: Once bone-dry, lightly dust the inside and outside with pure talcum powder (cornstarch-based is acceptable) to prevent sticking. For a deeper conditioning before long-term storage, apply a thin, even coat of our Latex Atelier Shiner.

• Package: Fold the garment loosely or hang it on a padded hanger. Place it inside the black, airtight storage bag provided. This protects it from light, dust, and ozone, which are its primary environmental enemies.

• Store: Keep it in a cool, dark, dry place. Ideal storage temperature is between 10°C and 20°C (50°F - 68°F).

4. Repair & Revival:

• Minor repairs (a small tear, a detached trim) are often possible. We offer a consultation service for repairs. Embracing repair over replacement is a cornerstone of sustainable ownership.
